Material and Care

Our jewelry is primarily crafted with stainless steel as the base metal, making it ideal for everyday wear since it is water-safe (though NOT ocean-safe).

Please note: pearls, glass beads, and gemstone materials are NOT waterproof. Some pendants and charms are gold-plated over brass, copper, or s925 silver bases, which can naturally tarnish when exposed to air, oils, and dirt.

Durability

Like your favourite shoes or bags, plated jewelry won't last forever. With frequent use, wear and tear is natural, but with proper care, you can extend its life significantly.

Fashion jewelry is designed for beauty, not permanence, and should not be held to the standards of fine jewelry. Every handcrafted piece carries value—not just in its materials but in the love and effort we pour into its creation. While the plating may wear over time, the sentiment behind each piece will last forever. 💗

Care Tips

Avoid exposing your jewelry to water, perfume, or lotion. Jewelry fully gold-plated on stainless steel, such as our Hoop Gold earrings, is an exception.
Clean with a soft cotton cloth—avoid harsh chemicals.

For tarnished charms or pendants:

  • Soak them in a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda for 15–20 minutes, then rinse.
  • Gently brush with toothpaste and rinse thoroughly.

Allergy Information

At Be the Summer, we prioritise hypoallergenic materials, using 304 or 316 stainless steel, which is hypoallergenic because it contains very low levels of nickel—the most common allergen in jewelry. Stainless steel is also typically free of other allergens like lead and cadmium. However, while hypoallergenic stainless steel is generally safe for most people with metal allergies, some individuals with more extreme sensitivities may still experience a reaction. However, every skin is unique. If you have highly sensitive skin, please consider this before purchasing.

Handcrafted Variations and Production

We reserve the right to make minor design adjustments, size changes, material and price modifications without prior notice. Slight variations in size and colour may occur as a result of natural materials used and that each piece is handmade. These differences are not flaws but a testament to the charm and individuality of artisan work.
